17 standard color-coded thicknesses from .0005" to .060". Custom thicknesses on request. The color runs through the full thickness of the material, not just the surface, so it won't wear off.
Our plastic shim stock is available in several material options to match your application. We keep a large inventory of precision-manufactured material in multiple thicknesses, from ultra-thin at .0005″ up to .125″.
We offer arbor shim assortments and bulk packages for customers who need multiple thicknesses. Custom kits can be assembled based on your specific requirements.
1. Outside Diameter / OD (of your steel spacer – measure the outer diameter of the metal spacer the shim fits over)
2. Inside Diameter / ID (of your steel spacer – measure the inside diameter where the shim slides onto the arbor shaft)
3. Keyway Dimensions
4. Quantities of each thickness
Please provide the dimensions from your metal spacers or the dimensions from your slitter arbor shaft. We will automagically add the appropriate clearances to fit over the arbor diameter and the key, and make sure the outside diameter doesn’t extend above the spacer.
Clearances
We make all shims with clearances to fit over the arbor and key and not extend above the spacers on the OD.
Shims are traditionally sold in packs of 100. Smaller quantities are available at higher unit cost.
You should order based on the size of the metal spacers, because the component on your desk already has clearances on all dimensions. So measuring the existing piece is helpful, but you need to remember that the actual dimensions are different than the stated dimensions.
Best practice would be to use the components intact. They can be cut from OD to ID in order to allow them to be inserted in the desired place over the arbor without pulling the arbor set up apart. However, it makes them more likely to squeeze out of place. It’s a choice of convenience over best practice.
It’s probably best if we provide them uncut for best performance, and then you can decide if you need to cut them for convenience in a set up.
Yes, that can be a problem. See above.
Yes, we can manufacture metric arbor shims with the overall dimensions (outside diameter, inside diameter, and keyway) in metric units. However, we cannot provide true metric thickness components – thickness is only available in imperial (English) measurements. As a custom plastic shim manufacturer, we work with both metric and imperial dimension specifications.
No, we offer the thickness only in English (or imperial) measurements. You can determine for yourself if the offered imperial sizes are close enough for the metric thicknesses.
They are clear. They are not colored because presumably most people can feel the difference between a .040″ and a .050″ and a .060″ component.
We only have the thicknesses on the chart. It is common and accepted practice to combine thicknesses to make what you need in your particular set up. So, you can get a .006″ with two .003″ Green components, or a .002″ Red and a .004″ Tan, etc. You can do the math.
Yes, we provide arbor shim assortments with multiple thicknesses in one package. These precision kits are ideal for shops that need various thickness options on hand. We can create custom color-coded assortments based on your specific thickness requirements or offer standard kits with our most popular sizes.
Yes, we specialize in manufacturing precision plastic shims in a wide range of thicknesses. Our thin plastic shims start at .0005″ and we maintain extremely tight tolerances throughout our entire thickness range. Every component is manufactured to precise specifications.
Matte stands for translucent matte, and it is a frosted clear material.
While sometimes used interchangeably, shims are typically used to fill gaps and adjust alignment, while spacers maintain consistent separation between components. Our products function effectively as both shims and spacers depending on your application needs.
Yes, we can manufacture both standard and custom round plastic tooling for various applications. As a specialized manufacturer, we produce custom made shims to your exact specifications. Contact us with your specific requirements for a quote.
